Road agents, horse thieves, plug-uglies don't want Seth Bullock
No state furnished more road agents and bad girls than Iowa
Deadwood to Cheyenne "next place to hell".
Buffalo Bill Cody Autobiography, personal account of his capture of Bill Bevins in 1872
"Bevins's flight was the most remarkable feat of its kind I have ever heard of. A man who could run barefooted in the snow through a prickly-pear patch was surely a "tough one." When I looked at the man's bleeding foot I really felt sorry for him. He asked me for my knife, and when I gave it to him he dug the thorns out of his foot with its sharp point. I consider him the gamest man I ever met.
I could not suffer a man with such a foot to walk, so I dismounted, and he rode my horse back to camp, while Green and I rode the other horse by turns. We kept a close watch on our prisoner. We had had plenty of proof that he needed it. His injured foot must have pained him fearfully, but never a word of complaint escaped him."

Road Agents
In yesterday's paper we mentioned the murder of James Nugent by Tom Price, at the Theatre Comique, in Omaha. The Tom Price referred to is the man who was captured close to this city in the fall of 1878, by a posse of citizens, as a road agent. He was shot in the bowels with a charge of buckshot, and for weeks it was supposed he was mortally wounded, as the food he ate passed through the punctures made by the buckshot. He was in the hospital here for seveal weeks under the care of Dr. Babcock, who at last brought him through all right. From here he was taken, after recovery, to Cheyenne, where he was convicted of robbing the stage, and sent up for five years, a term he had just served out.
